For Episode 4 I discussed a few different items, one of which is The Federalist Papers. The Federalist Papers were written to help persuade Americans to get on board with ratifying the Constitution and I believe everyone should read them. Written by Alexander Hamilton, John Jay and James Madison under the pen name of “Publius.” Each details the important reasons for our governmental structure being the way that it is and addresses some common objections people had at the time. I truly believe everyone should read this. This is a link to one of the versions I personally own (yes, I own more than one copy, don’t judge me).
Next, I discussed some information from Democracy in America by Alexis de Tocqueville, which I highly suggest any and everyone read. It is an important look at the way our country functioned in its early years and as such I highly recommend reading it. Here is the copy that I personally own:
